This award-winning drama drew enthusiastic attention from audiences, media and critics across the city, when its Chinese version premiered in 2011. Outstanding script, direction and performances received great praise and the production swept the Hong Kong Drama Awards’ many major prizes in the same year. This year, Shed Skin returns by popular demand and will make its premiere in Japan followed by the re-run in Hong Kong.
The story begins on the day after a middle-age man, who already lost his job and wife, attended his mother’s funeral. He now faces the prospect of having the sole responsibility to take care of his father, who suffers from dementia. One day, he wakes up and sees the ‘skin’ of his father! One by one, these fathers from different stages in the past emerge after shedding their ‘skins’, and he has no choice but to spend time with them. Through the most mundane of daily, family conversations, the fathers and son miraculously re-establish a long-lost connection, and the fond memories come back from the distant past. Faithful to its Japanese origin, Shed Skin wows and delights its audience with a quirky and intelligent mix of humour and sensitivity.
