Programme Description

The 1st i-Dance Festival in 2004 was a self-initiated event by a group of independent artists, supported by their passion for and devotion to dance. The objective was to build solidarity in dance and call for attention to contemporary dance.Ten years have gone by and have presented five i-Dance Festivals, of various scales.

Programme Content

Three dancers who are from Finland, Hong Kong and Taiwan will have a solo performance first. Then they will dance with music and video together.

Solo 1   Hatched

Johanna Nuutinen (Finland)

The work deals with anonymity, the structure of identity and the use of power. Individuals and, consequently, larger groups of people, are easier to manage when they are offered fewer alternatives, the content and the the distribution of information are regulated,  external information channels are closed, own will is removed, and eventually the subjects are completely isolated from their environment. What this type of approach causes in an individual and what happens to that person´s physicality in an environment where verbal communication is not possible?

Solo 2   Awakenings in a Dream

Mui Cheuk Yin (Hong Kong)

Created with reference to Pai Hsien-yung’s novel of the same title, it is Mui’s first-ever solo work created in 1986, a dialogue between literature and dance.

Solo 3 Something about Nothing

Ku Ming Shen (Taiwan)

We live through the memory.  Does memory create our reality?  Or we actually create our own memory?  Our memories intertwine with each other which tell a story with a fiction nature.
